Each year, Bozeman Health Foundation deliberates with the leadership at Bozeman Health to determine the most important focus for philanthropic partnerships with the community.

Big Sky Medical Center
Bozeman Health Foundation and Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center are proud that charitable commitments for the first new hospital to be built in Montana in more than forty years have exceeded $3 million in cash and in-kind support.

Jason Smith, Executive Vice President of Philanthropy at Bozeman Health Foundation, shared that a combined pledge of $1 million from Yellowstone Club, YC Community Foundation, Moonlight Basin and the Spanish Peaks Mountain Club have helped Big Sky Medical Center to meet the fundraising challenge set by the Charles and Peggy Stephenson Family Foundation to match their $850,000 gift to provide for a high-quality MRI. The 1.5 Tesla MRI was installed in Big Sky Medical Center on October 23rd.

In addition to closing out the MRI challenge grant, these major pledges from the four entities, along with gifts from several other supporters, will help to establish the Fund for Excellence and Innovation in Big Sky Patient Care. This fund will ensure that those who know the Big Sky community and its healthcare needs best are able to acquire new leading-edge equipment, to have their staff members trained in new techniques and to more quickly provide new kinds of treatments and services to patients that may not otherwise be available in Big Sky.

“Perhaps more than in any other sector, healthcare is changing at an incredible pace and we need to stay nimble,” said Dr. Phil Hess, Big Sky Medical Center’s Medical Director. “As we bring Montana’s first truly new hospital in decades to life, the Fund for Excellence and Innovation in Big Sky Patient Care will allow us to continue to enhance services for the future and to seize opportunities that we may not even know exist yet.”

According to Loren Bough, “The opening of Big Sky Medical Center will represent a transformative moment in the life of our community. I know I speak for all of us when I say that Bozeman Health has been a great partner and delivered on their initial promises to the community.” Bough is a full time Big Sky resident, vice president of the YC Community Foundation and is a newly appointed member of the medical center’s Board of Managers.

The not-for-profit community hospital located in Big Sky Town Center features a four-bed inpatient unit, primary care clinic, imaging center, laboratory services, retail pharmacy, outpatient medical procedure suite, and six-room emergency department. The multiphase project was designed to accommodate four additional patient beds and additional clinic space as needs in the community grow.
